It's becoming a Christmas tradition to do your advent calendar with my partner. Loved being able to narrow down our guesses each day to pinpoint the drone this time around. Thanks for running this!

Really enjoyable this year. I "give" this advent calendar to my Year 12 and 13 Further Maths classes every year, and this has engaged more of them than in previous years. They particularly liked the shooting down of drones and the opportunity for intelligent "guess work" or in the case of some writing a computer programme which would calculate the probability distribution for each drone's position based on current information. Thank you

Thanks so much for making this, Matthew! It was a joy to solve, I found myself looking forward to every morning.

My dad and I did several of these puzzles together. I am 8 years old, and I figured many of them out. Thank you!

It says I have all days correct but I ran into a contradiction with one of the drones speed. :( is there any way to check?

@selina
Good instinct to start with smaller variants of the problem and working your way up.

You've chosen a perhaps confusing way of directly tackling the big length=14 problem, by partitioning it as "how big is the set of 14-digit numbers with exactly that many 2s".

Note that you can start smaller and simpler, by just considering shorter-length numbers first.

As you work the shorter examples, you may see a pattern in construction, or a pattern in the numbers. Either intuition will help you.

can anyone give me a hint for (11)? i've figured out how many there are for one two, two twos, three twos and seven twos, but i feel like there must be a way faster less complex way to do it than what i'm currently doing. thanks!

@Dr Lizzie: There's some discussion on Ravelry in the Woolly Thoughts group. Someone's hint for day 6 was: "Try it out for totals for 1,2,3,4… 8 Keep a note of how many 1 digit, how many 2 digit and so on for each number."

I’ve just discovered your advent calendar (2022) and loving it! I’m stuck on (6) and could do with a clue. Is there anywhere you offer hints, or is there a discussion forum anywhere? Thanks ????
